The 15-minute video, obtained by the Mexican media network, Televisa, captures a roiling scene of violence and chaos as the marines, Mexico's most-trusted military force, throw grenades and fire dozens of rounds at a home in Los Mochis, a coastal town in the state of Sinaloa.
All told, five people were killed during the encounter at about 4:30 a.m. Friday, the Mexican authorities said. CNN reported that one member of the Mexican military force was injured.
"They got me, they got me," the injured person is heard saying in the video.
The video shows the marines searching the two-story house, flipping mattresses and rooting through closets. At one point, an unidentified man is seen being lowered to the ground.
Guzman, who was the subject of an extensive manhunt after his second escape from prison, slipped away through the sewers during the gunbattle, but he was apprehended after stealing a car. The authorities were led to the home after he had been in contact with actors and producers in hopes of creating a movie about his life, the government said.
On Sunday night, the Mexican government began proceedings to send him to the United States to face a litany of drug charges.
