PM in Port of Spain; focus on climate change

Port of Spain: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has reached Trinidad, ahead of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Port of Spain after completing his visit to the United States as Obama's first state guest. The meeting is expected to focus primarily on climate change.

The Prime Minister will attend the inauguration of the summit of the 53-nation grouping of former British colonies on Saturday.

Onthe sidelines of the summit, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will meetFrench President Nicholas Sarkozy, British Prime Minister Gordon Brownand Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremanayake among other worldleaders.

Both Foreign Minister S M Krishna and Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmud Qureshi are already in Trinidad for the commonwealth foreign ministers meet on the sidelines of the
CHOGM.

There has been much speculation on a possible meeting between the two, but nothing has been scheduled so far.

Sources have said recently that given the public mood right now ameeting isn't likely, but things can always change even at the lastminute.

"The only purpose a meeting will serve is to show India is ready to engage with Pakistan, nothing else. That message has already been given several times; there has been no request from the Pakistani side for a meeting," Krishna said.
