Plane Engine Sucks in Bird in Brazil

Sao Paulo: An Airbus A330 passenger jet was forced to return to Brasilia's international airport after a bird was sucked into one of the engines minutes after takeoff, the Portuguese airliner TAP said today.

The plane was heading to Lisbon yesterday with 258 passengers and 11 crew members aboard when the pilot noticed something was wrong in one of the engines, said Simone Caniello, a TAP spokeswoman in Brazil.

Less than 20 minutes after takeoff, the pilot decided to return to the airport, said Caniello. The plane landed normally and no one was hurt.

The passengers were scheduled to fly to Lisbon tonight.
