London: An exhibition of paintings by an Indian artist depicting as many as 40 myriad landscapes of Zambia, Ukraine, the US, Cyprus and Switzerland, besides the UK and India, went on display in London.
Inaugurated by Indian High Commissioner Shiv Shankar Mukherjee, the watercolour paintings by artist A Murugesan, include depictions of the Baobab Tree of Zambia, the Berdychiv Monastery of Ukraine, the Tower Bridge in London and Gangaikonda Cholapuram in Tamil Nadu, among others.
Mukherjee, who has earlier served as India's High Commissioner in Zambia, said he was quite impressed with the paintings of the Zambian landscapes.
Murugesan, husband of M Subashini, Minister of Press and Information in the Indian High Commission, said his wife's diplomatic career had enabled him to visit and experience life in different countries.
Impressed by the Dutch school of painting, he took to painting in the year 1997 in Holland.
Murugesan, who has earlier held exhibitions in Ukraine and Zambia, said this was for the first time he was holding a solo exhibition in London.
"I am overwhelmed by the response and the kind words spoken about my paintings," he said.
Titled 'Watercolour Journeys,' the exhibition puts together paintings of as many as 40 landscapes at the Bharatiya Vidya Bhawan.
