A day after India announced
surgical strikes carried out by the army across the Line of Control, Nawaz Sharif warned that Pakistan is "fully capable of executing surgical strikes" and "no one will be allowed to cast an evil eye" on the country.
Chairing a special cabinet meeting on Friday, the Pakistani Prime Minister said his country would take all necessary steps "to protect its people and territorial integrity in case of any aggression or violation of the Line of Control".
The Express Tribune quoted him as saying that "Indian aggression" is a threat to the entire region and "the nation is standing shoulder-to-shoulder with the valiant armed forces to defend the motherland."
In the surgical strikes that began after midnight on Wednesday and went on till 4:30 am, Indian troops entered around 2 km into territory controlled by Pakistan and targeted seven terror launch pads. The army has said that there were "significant casualties" among terrorists preparing for attacks on Jammu and Kashmir and metros.
This was seen as India's first military action after the September 18 terror attack on an army base in Jammu and Kashmir's Uri, in which 19 soldiers were killed by terrorists from Pakistan.
Islamabad has dismissed India's announcement as "fabrication of truth" and an attempt to pass off "cross-border firing" as surgical strikes. The stand was endorsed by the Sharif cabinet today.
Mr Sharif called for a probe into the Uri attack and said blaming Pakistan for orchestrating the attack was beyond comprehension. His Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said that Pakistan does not want escalation of tension but is ready to meet any eventuality.
