New York flights resume after storm

New York: Flights resumed with delays at New York airports Saturday after a fierce blizzard passed.

"Airlines are expected to begin limited service this morning, but all travellers should check with airlines carriers for flight status," the New York and New Jersey Port Authority said on Twitter.

John F. Kennedy International Airport, LaGuardia and Newark suspended all flights on Friday in response to the heavy snow and hurricane-strength wind gusts.

First passenger jets began arriving early Saturday, the Port Authority said.

However, almost 2,000 flights were cancelled Saturday across the New England region amid continuing high winds and snow clearance operations.

Boston's Logan Airport was struggling to get back into action.

"Overnight, whiteout conditions on the airfield prevented safe operations for our snow crews and their work was suspended for about five hours. The airport is currently closed to all air traffic. Crews started up again shortly before 4:00 am," the airport said on its Facebook page.
