London:
A man released from a mental hospital three months ago beheaded a woman on Sunday and then ran off with the head, saying "This is my treasure".
The suspect, a Bulgarian, decapitated Jennifer Mills-Westley, a British woman, on Tenerife Island and ran through a resort showing off her severed head.
The suspect, Deyan Valentinov D., was released from a mental hospital just three months back.
Witnesses described how the killer, who called himself "God's Prophet", beheaded Jennifer and then took off with her head saying: "This is my treasure."
Deyan, 28, reportedly picked up a large knife or machete and then stabbed her repeatedly without saying a word. He then hacked off her head.
He was chased by security guards and nabbed after a passer-by hurled a motorcycle helmet at him, causing Jennifer's head to roll down the pavement in front of horrified people.
"This is an atrocious crime, the worst that has happened here in recent years," Mayor Jose Alberto Gonzalez Reveron was quoted as saying.
