Cairns:

External Affairs Minister S M Krishna on Friday said that India was satisfied with Australia's assurance on the issue of racism against the Indian community in that country.

Speaking to NDTV, the minister said, "We are satisfied with talks on the issue of racism against Indians. We have got concrete assurance that every Indian student will be safe."

Krishna asserted that India believed the assurances were concrete.

Earlier in the day, during a 20-minute-long closed-door meeting with the visiting Indian foreign minister, Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd promised that all steps would be taken to ensure safety and security of Indian students. The two were discussing the issues in the backdrop of recent attacks on Indians Down Under.

As regards fresh steps to deal with violence against Indians, Krishna also informed that from now onwards, the task force for Indian students in Australia would meet the Indian Consul General every week.

Besides discussing the issue of racism, Krishna also conveyed to the Australian government India's views on the use of uranium. He said the two nations continued to have different views on the use of uranium linked to energy needs.
