Is Australia safe for Indian students?

Is Australia safe for Indian students?
Melbourne:

Victimised in Australia, Indian students are petrified, dazed and confused. Anger is also growing within the country, among families of those like Shravan, who is still in a coma.

Baljinder Singh, stabbed by his mocking attackers but recovering, has a chilling warning to other potential students - find opportunities in India, don't come to Australia.

Actor Amitabh Bachchan has also expressed his outrage, writing in his blog that he wants to return a doctorate from an Australian University.

The Australians have promised all help but the horror of seeing their children brutally attacked has Indian families extremely angry.

"The primary fault lies with the Australians. They are so called developed countries but without humanity. They should be ashamed as a big democratic country. Our government should be more responsible," said Shravan's father T Chidambaram.

Another young Indian Rajesh Kumar is recovering from burns in hospital in Australia.

"They threw a petrol bomb into his room, which caught fire. His friends wrapped him in a blanket and took him to hospital. He had no enemies who would do something like this?" said Rajesh's sister.

And the anger against the attacks is gathering momentum. On Saturday morning, Amitabh Bachchan, India's iconic star, said he wants to reject an Australian honour offered to him.

In his blog big B wrote, "I mean no disrespect to the institution that honors me, but under the present circumstances, where citizens of my own country are subjected to such acts of inhuman horror, my conscience does not permit me to accept this decoration from a country that perpetrates such indignity to my fellow countrymen."

India's high commissioner to Australia has urged students to pick institutions with care when they apply to Australia. Some students have come together to form support groups, others will march for peace at a rally in Melbourne on Sunday.

These are the down under efforts for peace and attempts to move on.
