Injured Imran Khan to address poll rally from hospital bed today

Lahore: Pakistani cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan will address an important election rally in Islamabad this evening from a hospital in Lahore where he was admitted after an accident on Tuesday.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) chief suffered several fractured vertebrae and a broken rib on Tuesday night when he fell from a lift that was raising him onto a platform at a campaign rally.

At 7 pm today, his address will be beamed live via a phone to his party workers in Islamabad.
Doctors have said they expect Mr Khan, 60, to make a full recovery despite fracturing his spine in the accident that happened just days before Saturday's general election in the country.

In a statement filmed from his hospital bed, Mr Khan urged people to vote for his party. In the video footage, he could be seen lying on hospital bed while a wearing a neck brace.

Doctors say despite his injuries, he is "in total control of all limbs and body functions".
PTI official Shah Mehmood Qureshi had earlier said that PTI's campaign finale - the rally outside parliament in Islamabad today -- would go ahead as planned.

"Wherever he is, in any condition, even from the ICU (intensive care unit), he will address the nation in the last moments of the campaign," he had said.
