Indian woman found murdered in Nepal hotel

Kathmandu: An Indian woman was found strangled inside a hotel in a Nepal town close to one of the busiest entry points on the India-Nepal border, police said.

Police suspect it's a case of illicit love and have started a search for the Indian man who accompanied the woman who appears to be in her early thirties.

The victim, who is yet to be identified, was discovered strangled with a rope inside a room in Hotel Liberty in eastern Nepal's Kakarbhitta town on Sunday.

Police said an Indian couple, claiming to be husband and wife, had checked into the hotel around 2 pm. The man gave his name in the hotel register 32-year-old Naren Da from Siliguri town.

Soon after checking in he left saying he was going out to buy medicine.

As the man locked the door of the room from outside, the suspicious hotel staff looked into the room through an open window and found the woman inside, struggling for her life.

She had apparently been strangled.

Police said they were looking for the dead woman's absconding companion.
