The BT Tower in central London was lit up by a spectacular fireworks display to mark the 1,000 day countdown until the London 2012 Olympics.
A giant screen will flash the 1,000-day notice. London Olympics, organising chief Sebastian Coe has said that preparations are on track and the Olympic Park venues have taken shape this year, with construction under way of the main stadium, Velodrome, aquatics centre, basketball arena, media centre and athletes' village.
The construction crew currently stands at 7,270 people and is expected to go up to 10,000 people by next year.
Coe added that in the near future people can look forward to unveiling the games mascot as well a launching the volunteer program. Sports venues and the competition schedule will also be finalised.
