Dubai World Central to go live in 2010

Dubai:

UAE's government's biggest urban development project, a high-tech city centred around world's largest airport, will be operational from June next year, a senior official said on Monday.

Dubai World Central (DWC) is multi-phase development project with 140 square kilometre which is almost twice the size of Hong-Kong, Dubai Aviation City Corporation Chairman, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum said in a statement.

The entire project has been clustered into six special zones- DWC-Al Maktoum International Airport, Dubai Logistics City, Aviation City, Residential city Commercial city and Golf resort.

"Our vision for Dubai is to be an unparalleled global commercial, trade and transportation hub with a unique integrated multi-modal logistics platform in DWC which will change all known air, land and sea transportation parameters," Maktoum said.

The project has an infrastructure of about $33 billion and will enter its first phase of operation when its airport opens in June 2010.

Speaking about the first terminal which was 80 per cent complete, Maktoum said that it has passenger capacity of seven million while the airport's annual passenger capacity would be 160 million.
