Los Angeles: Action star-turned Californian Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is to take some "swift action" against his wife Maria Shriver as she repeatedly flouts the law against using a cell phone while driving.

Shriver was caught red handed in photos and a video posted on a website, which show her breaking the law prohibiting driving under the influence of a cell phone.

The Terminator actor, who signed the law last year, responded by writing on his Twitter page, "Thanks for bringing her violations to my attention. ...There's going to be swift action."

Arnold's spokesman Aaron McLear said that by "swift action," the Governor means he'll ask his wife not to hold the phone while driving.

The state ban on handheld cell phone use while driving went into effect July 1, 2008. It carries a fine of US $20 on the first conviction and US $50 on the second, not including penalties.
