'Sit as long as you can in Parliament, who knows how many will return'

New Delhi: Lok Sabha was a rare vision of goodwill and camaraderie as opposed to the bitter clashes as it met today for the last time before the general elections, due by May. Here are some of the highlights of the farewell speeches by the parliamentarians:
  • "Sit as long as you can in Parliament. Who knows how many will return to the next Lok Sabha."

"Sushma ji, at times, used to get so angry that I would be worried that she would stop talking to me. But the moment she left the house, even mithais could not match the sweetness in her words."

"Mulayam Singh ji is basically a teacher. He is quick to lose his temper but also cools down and explains any situation as a teacher would to his students."
Sushil Kumar Shinde, Union Home Minister 21-02-2014
  • My brother, Kamal Nath, occasionally created shararat (mischief) in the House but Shinde ji always maintained sharafat (decency) and resolved all problems. But it was Sonia ji's mediation, PM's mild-mannered ways and Advani ji's sense of justice that ensured the functioning of the House.
Sushma Swaraj, Senior leader, BJP 21-02-2014
  • "We have become so close that if some of you don't come back, we will miss you."
Mulayam Singh Yadav, Samajwadi Party chief 21-02-2014
  • "Just like Inderjit Gupta used to be referred to as the Father of the House, Advani ji also holds the same position and Sushma ji is the Sister of the House."
Basudeb Acharia, Senior leader, CPM 21-02-2014
