Muzaffarnagar riots: BJP slams Congress's 'secular tourism'

Muzaffarnagar riots: BJP slams Congress's 'secular tourism'
New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi visited Muzaffarnagar this morning, where nearly 50 people were killed in communal riots so severe that the army was called in for the first time in over a decade to restore law and order in Uttar Pradesh.

  • The way they are conducting 'secular tourism' on communal riots will not assuage the pain of the people of Muzaffarnagar. The incidents happened right under the nose of the Centre and they kept asking the Uttar Pradesh government to respond almost as if some 'sawal-jawab qawwali' was going on.
Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Bharatiya Janata Party spokesperson 16/09/2013
  • If the government would have acted on time, the communal violence in Uttar Pradesh would have been averted.
    Rajnath Singh, BJP chief 16/09/2013
  • This is just for vote bank politics. They are trying to upsurge communal violence there. Both parties - the Congress and the Samajwadi Party - want to attract Muslim votes. Mayawati should withdraw her support from UPA if she truly believe this.
    Uma Bharti, BJP leader 16/09/2013
  • Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has gone to Muzaffarnagar...it is good...elections are near and he should do this.
Azam Khan, Samajwadi Party leader 16/09/2013
  • It's a UPA tradition to reach out to the people who are in anguish.
    Manish Tewari, Congress leader 16/09/2013
  • I don't want to comment on what BJP is saying. We have to wait for the normalcy to return. It is extremely distressing to hear the stories that the people told to Rahul Gandhi. They have lost complete faith in the state government.
RPN Singh, MoS Home Affairs 16/09/2013
