The suicide of a 26-year-old PhD scholar has triggered nationwide outrage. Rohith Vemula of the University of Hyderabad was one of the five suspended scholars who were suspended in August over allegedly beating up an ABVP leader. Students allege that Rohith, who belonged to the Dalit community, faced discrimination from the university administration. Students blame the Union Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya for writing a misleading letter to the education ministry over the matter, however, the minister has rubbished the charge. Meanwhile, education minister Smriti Irani has said that the central government has no administrative powers and it's for the state to look into the law and order situation. With the Centre passing the buck and university authority silent on the matter, tonight on Agenda, we ask, who is to be blamed for the young life lost?
