Radhika Bordia starts her day at the crack of dawn, taking a train to Mumbai's Victoria Terminus. Over the next 24 hours, she meets an income tax official on her way to a dawn raid, dance bar girl going home after work and Mumbai's famous dabbawalas. She discovers that for maximum city, the local trains are a lifeline that Mumbaikars cannot imagine doing without.
