On International Women's Day, We The People speaks to the brave and inspiring women officers of the Indian Navy. A woman officer led the Indian Navy contingent for the first time at the Republic Day parade this year, and for the first there all-women contingents of the three services marched down the Rajpath. Women have swum against the tide and brought all barriers down, but the last bastion still remains - they are yet to be given combat roles. On We The People, women officers say "let us into combat." "We are ready," they say, "are you?" On the show, we ask: When all warships in the Navy are a she, why are there no women on board? Where’s the delay in giving permanent commission for women? Are women actually combating a mindset to be on the frontlines? And are matrimony and maternity used as excuses to put women down? Also on the show, an interview with Navy Chief Admiral RK Dhowan and his wife Minu Dhowan. Admiral Dhowan tells NDTV that the Navy is taking a serious look at opening up avenues for women, and when the time is right and the Navy is ready, they won't hold back.
