As India refused to sign on the trade facilitation agreement at the WTO citing the need for an immediate assurance on the sensitive issue of farmer subsidy in order to meet its commitment to the Food Security Act at home, it finds itself isolated for going back on the word of the previous UPA government. The Congress led government had said that India would sign a deal to ease global trade and work over the next four years to find a workable solution at the trade forum to allow developing countries to avoid a clause that caps subsidies among all member nations at 10 percent of the output to provide a level playing field internationally.
