In her first TV interview since taking charge of the Women and Child Development Ministry, Maneka Gandhi tells NDTV, she is trying to stop harassment of women which starts from the womb by ensuring institutional deliveries and no child marriages in districts with skewed gender ratio. On her proposed juvenile law changes, she says she wants Juvenile Justice Board to decide whether minors aged between 16 and 18 be tried as adults for heinous crimes. Nirbhaya case juvenile, however, would still have been tried as a minor, she says, as he "technically committed the crime in childish frame of mind". The minister also spoke on why she wants beef banned in the entire country and why her office uses cow urine as a disinfectant.
