Expressing regret that he couldn't amend AFSPA in his tenure, Mr Chidambaram said that no other country in the world authorises a jawan to fire 'even to the causing of death', so why should we "sanctify in a Parliamentary legislation the causing of death?" On the long standing soldiers' demand of one rank one pension, Mr Chidambaram said that his government had delivered on OROP and couldn't be blamed for delay. He asked Prime Minister Modi to explain the one-year delay on OROP despite everyone agreeing on it.
