A jungle where two wheelers are overpowered by car drivers, cars are intimidated by SUVs, all of them are scared of looming trucks and trailers, and at the bottom of this food chain are pedestrians. 80,000 people die on India's highways each year. What is ailing our roads? Is it the road design? Tired drivers? Lack of enforcement of traffic laws? Increasing number of liquor shops on the sides of the highways? As part of the Diageo-NDTV Road To Safety campaign, NDTV's Kranti Sambhav takes a trip down India's killer highways and talks to truck drivers, dhaba owners, car drivers and NGOs to try and understand what is turning our highways – the lifelines of our country – into death zones.
