The 76-year-old market at Park Circus in Kolkata will soon be pulled down to make way for a upscale retail plaza over 2 lakh sq ft. Of the 2 lakh square feet, 1.5 lakh sq ft will be held by the developer Reliance Industries Limited. Quite unlike their Kerala counterparts, the government here is open to agri-retail as long as there is no monopoly.
