Srinagar made a departure from its usual poll boycott this year with 28% voting - a 25-year record - in the penultimate phase of assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. The state recorded 49% polling - up by nearly 4% from the 2008 figure of 45.7%. In Jharkhand 61.65% turnout was recorded. The Election Commission expects the figures to go up further after the final tally.
