Education is the right of every child, but a new order of the Rajasthan government may shut the doors of private schools and a brighter future to nearly 3 lakh children in the state. Under the Right to Education Act, any child from the weaker section of society -- whose parents' annual income is less than Rs. 2.5 lakh a year - can apply for admission to a private school. The government bears the costs. But in an order dated March 28, the government said only those who have a Below Poverty Line card, or belong to the Scheduled castes and tribes, can avail of this opportunity.
