It was in Pune that the country's first school for girls was started by Mahatma Jyotiba Phule and his wife Savitri. The historical structure was taken over by a builder, demolished and replaced with a commercial complex, but the government has now realised its mistake and wants this piece of history back. "It's our national heritage which has been turned into a commercial complex due to mistakes committed by Pune Municipal Corporation," said Babasaheb Bhosale, an activist.
