Prime Minister Narendra Modi would be among a dozen world leaders who will attend a global festival on September 27 in the sprawling Central Park in New York that will feature music icon Jay Z and many other big stars. Rahul Shrivastava spoke to Hugh Evans, CEO of the Global Poverty Project which is organizing this festival. Prime Minister Modi is expected to address a crowd of nearly 60,000 people at the park. The festival coincides with the UN General Assembly and is expected to serve as a high-profile platform to call for commitments from world leaders in the areas of vaccine, education and sanitation. This year's festival will also focus on ensuring that all the world's children and young people can survive and thrive. It will support a UNFPA-led global campaign to ensure the rights of adolescents and youth, especially girls, are firmly included in the post-2015 Development Agenda. Global Citizens will be calling on all governments to prioritise investments for young people across crucial areas of education, reproductive health and safety from violence.
