Murli Manohar Joshi's candidacy from Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh has not been announced, but the senior BJP leader already seems in campaign mode. The haste has been impelled by a strong buzz that his party could pick Varanasi as the seat that its prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi will contest in the general elections next month. Mr Joshi is reportedly not inclined to surrender his seat - he is the sitting MP from Varanasi.
