Ajay Chadha, the DG of ITBP, said they are trying to rescue as many people as possible by Sunday in Uttarakhand's worst-hit areas. The Vice Chairman of India's National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), M Shashidhar Reddy, admitted that bureaucratic hurdles are a big problem, which is why the specialised NDRF force has only six satellite phones being used in this rescue operation, even though they have been sanctioned over 200. Former Army Chief General Shankar Roy Choudhury said there is no need for an agency like the NDMA. The DG of the Met Department insisted the state had been given a specific and adequate warning, despite the Chief Minister's rebuttal of the same.
