The income tax department's victory in the Supreme Court has strengthened the taxman's arms. It will cast its net much wider now in targetting companies who have engineered similar transactions without paying taxes. Tax officials say their jurisdiction has been established over such M&A deals besides restoring the original income tax notice served to Vodafone.
