The SEB restructuring package announced by the government will help clean up the balancesheets of State Electricity Boards and will be positive for banks that have been lending to these distribution companies, says Anil Razdan, former power secretary. However, he adds that it is crucial to ensure that SEBs revise tariffs regularly from here on and also work to improve the Transmission & Distribution systems. Razdan also suggests that banks lending to SEBs should be more closely associated with the decision making process of SEBs.
