Prime Minister Narendra Modi is meeting his core team today to pick the ruling NDA's candidate for President. The Parliamentary Party, which is meeting shortly, is expected to formally ask the Prime Minister to nominate a candidate, sources said. A formal announcement is expected later. On NDA's decision hinges whether an election will be necessary -- most opposition parties have said they will decide on consensus once NDA names its candidate. CPM's Sitaram Yechury has said the opposition will announce its own candidate if the BJP fails to announce its candidate by Tuesday.
