The launch of GST or the Goods and Services Tax on July 1 "looks real," union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley told NDTV on Wednesday morning just before he initiated a seven-hour debate in the Lok Sabha or lower house of Parliament on four supporting bills crucial to rolling out a unified tax regime. In the house, Mr Jaitley detailed provisions of the four bills and pitched GST as a "unique experience of Indian legislatures".
