Students from 27 schools in Kerala regions have collected Rs 4 lakh, voluntarily donating a single rupee a day over a sustained period, and have dedicated it to homeless people in North India, to help them fight the cold by buying them blankets under NDTV and Uday Foundation's "Blanket Drive".

December 28 was Delhi's coldest night. The mercury fell to as low as 2.6 degrees Celsius. And in this bone chilling cold, there were many who slept on streets on pieces of cardboard and covered themselves with plastic sheets. These homeless people struggled to keep themselves alive.

It was an appeal that had been sent through out through NDTV just two days back over the weekend. But due to an overwhelming response of the viewers, Uday Foundation managed to collect around a thousand blankets and 1500 warm clothes.
