The government is likely to set up a separate pay commission for the armed forces for the first time since independence. The seventh Pay Commission for the 50 lakh central government employees has already been announced. Its recommendations are expected to be implemented from January 2016.

Ahead of elections, the government today announced constitution of the Seventh Pay Commission, which will go into the salaries, allowances and pensions of about 80 lakh of its employees and pensioners.
