The Gujarat government earned Rs 38,730 crore from value-added tax (VAT) and cess on petrol, diesel, CNG and PNG in the last two years, the state legislative Assembly was informed on Monday.

The Gujarat government announced a reduction in VAT (Value Added Tax) on CNG and PNG by 10% and said two cooking gas cylinders will be given free every year to 38 lakh beneficiaries who have got gas connections under the Centre's Ujjwala scheme.

A reduction on state tax on CNG saw prices reduced to Rs 60 per kg in Mumbai from April 1.

As the 400-odd petrol pumps and CNG dispensing units in the national capital remain shut Monday in protest against the Delhi government's refusal to reduce VAT on fuels, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal accused the BJP of "threatening" petrol pump owners to go on strike against the AAP government.
