Campaigning For Andhra Pradesh By-polls

A bitter campaign came to an end on Sunday in the Nellore Lok Sabha and 18 Andhra Pradesh legislative assembly constituencies for Tuesday's by-polls, which are being seen as a semifinal before the 2014 general elections.

YSR Congress chief Jagan Mohan Reddy's mother Vijay Lakshmi has begun campaigning from Srikakulam district for June 12 by-polls to 18 assembly seats from today, as the bail plea of the leader has been deferred by Andhra Pradesh High Court till tomorrow.

With the arrest of YS Jaganmohan Reddy on charges of corruption, his mother Vijayamma will now campaign for the YSR Congress in next month's by-elections. Vijayamma, the honorary president of the party, was requested to do so after the party's central governing council held an emergency meeting Monday.

In Telangana, a by-election held today brought great news for those who've been campaigning for a new state. The winner is from the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) which has fronted the movement for the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.
