Auto, taxi fares go up in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government today gave nod for hiking the fares of autorickshaw and taxis with immediate effect with the minimum fare of autorickshaw would increase from Rs 10 to Rs 12 and that of the taxi to Rs 60.

The new rates were worked out based on the proposals given by the Fare revision committee, Chief Minister V S Achuthanadan told reporters.

The per kilo metre rate of autorickshaws would go up from Rs 6 to 7 and taxis from Rs 7.50 to Rs 8.

Owners and unions in the state had been pressing for a fare revision for quite some time in view of steep hike in petrol and diesel prices.
