Hyderabad: Jhansi Rani, a student in Telangana, dreaded going home from her college hostel and wrote to Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao last week. In the letter sent by speed post, the 21-year-old B Tech student wrote she was being harassed by her mother and husband and they were trying to force her into prostitution.

By the time the police arrived at her home in Nakrekal, around 100 km from Hyderabad, the young woman had been dead for four days, her funeral had taken place and her mother and husband were missing.

The police on Saturday found a locked house. Her mother was later found and arrested.

She has reportedly told the police that Jhansi swallowed pesticide on May 24, the day her letter was posted to the Chief Minister.

According to the police, Jhansi had written in the letter that her husband tortured her mentally and physically. "I couldn't bear the harassment, hence continued to stay here in Hyderabad. My husband will take me away. I'm scared that's why I'm writing a letter," she wrote.

She was allegedly forced by her mother into the marriage two years ago.

On May 23, Jhansi had just completed her final exam when she was taken home from her college by her mother and husband. They allegedly abused her.

Investigating officer Venkateshwar Rao told NDTV that the two saw Jhansi take pesticide but didn't call the police. They have been charged with hiding evidence.
