A four-year-old was forced to drink liquor allegedly by his uncle in Tamil Nadu's Tiruvannamalai district
A child, no more than 4, drinks liquor from a cup as a group of men laugh and cheer him on. The disturbing video went viral on social media before the police in Tamil Nadu intervened and arrested three of the men, charging them with attempted murder.
One of them is the boy's maternal uncle who was allegedly drinking with his friends when they forced the child to come and drink with them.
The police are looking for three more seen in the video.
The video was filmed last month in a village in Tamil Nadu's Tiruvannamalai district.
"We are questioning the accused. We are also speaking to the parents. The boy is fine now," said M Ganesan, a senior police officer.
In the one-and-a-half minute video, the men are seen pouring liquor from a bottle into a cup and making the child drink it. They laugh into the camera and keep urging the child to mimic their actions. The boy does so, and is rewarded by hoots of laughter as he throws away the plastic cup after finishing the contents.
The police said the case called for a serious charge like attempt to murder.
"We would ensure tough sections are filed against them and they are brought to justice," said R Ponni, the Superintendent of Police.
