Silence to be observed on Martyr's Day

Chennai: A two-minute silence will be observed across the state on the occasion of Martyrs' Day on January 30 with all operations being suspended, Tamil Nadu government said today.

"On January 30, silence will be observed and work and movement stopped for two minutes throughout the state between11 and 11.02 am," Kumar Jayant, Secretary, Public Department, said.

Wherever "practicable," all workshops and factories will stop work while All-India radio will suspend broadcast and traffic on roads will also stop for two minutes, he said in a release.

Trains scheduled for departure at 11 am will be detained for two minutes at their respective stations which would also be the case with flights and ships, he said adding commencement and termination of two minutes of silence will be indicated by sirens.

Every year, homage is paid to Martyrs who laid down their lives in India's freedom struggle by observing two minute silence on January 30.
