Set Up Monitory Body For Jobs As Per Quota, DMK Urges PM Narendra Modi

DMK chief Karunanidhi also reiterated how his party had consistently opposed the notion of creamy layer in reservations and cited a 2008 resolution and 2014 election manifesto of his party.

Chennai: DMK president Karunanidhi today urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to set up a monitory body to ensure that jobs under Central government services were provided in accordance with quota earmarked to each of the reserved categories and sought amendment to law to eliminate creamy layer norm.

"A monitory body should be set up to ensure that job appointments under the Union government services were made in accordance with the quota earmarked for reserved categories," he said.

Reacting to a report that less than 12 per cent OBCs were in Central government service, he said it was "surprising, a betrayal and it (report) made it very clear that only a very low percentage of (reserved categories) got jobs."

Stating that the development was shocking and painful and in divergence to the Mandal panel recommendations, the DMK chief said to "fully implement Mandal Commission recommendations, necessary amendments to the law should be brought in to remove the discriminatory norm of creamy layer."

He also reiterated how his party had consistently opposed the notion of creamy layer in reservations and cited a 2008 resolution and 2014 election manifesto of his party.

"The Central government should release a white paper on the jobs given so far for backward classes, SCs and STs department-wise," he urged.

He also demanded filling up of backlog vacancies by holding special examinations and appointment drive.
