Former LTTE Member Detained in Tamil Nadu, Say Police
Chennai: The Tamil Nadu police have detained a suspected former member of Sri Lanka's separatist militant group LTTE in Ramanathapuram.

Sources say 75 cyanide capsules, 300 gm cyanide, a GPS device and a few mobile phones have been recovered by the police.

"We are investigating his background besides examining whether the chemical and the content in the capsule is cyanide indeed," a senior police officer said.

The banned Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam or LTTE, fighting for a separate homeland in Sri Lanka for Tamils, was defeated in an ethnic war in 2009.

Recently, the Lankan government had warned that the LTTE could regroup as their financial muscle power is intact with supporters spread across the west.

However many groups and parties in Tamil Nadu have been denying this, saying this is yet another attempt by Lanka to delay the rehabilitation of the lakhs of Tamil people displaced by the final war against the LTTE.

A UN-appointed committee had estimated that between 40,000 to one lakh Lankan Tamil civilians were possibly killed in the war.
