A fast track Court has sentenced a man to 10 years rigorous imprisonmentfor raping a 21-year old woman near Rasipuram in the district in October 2009.
Fast track court judge Basher Ahamed last evening also sentenced Shankar, alias Jaishankar, to seven years RI forsnatching the gold chain of the victim. Both the sentences would run concurrently, Rasipuram DSP A.Raja said.
According to prosecution, Shankar waylaid the woman when she was returning home from work on October 10, 2009, rapedher and took away the two sovereign chain near Rasipuram.
As the convict was facing a number of murder and dacoity cases in Karnataka also he was taken to Bangalore and lodgedat the central prison here, the DSP said.
