Chennai:
Opposition DMK today staged walkout twice from the Tamil Nadu Assembly over different issues.
Initially, the party was locked in a war of words with arch rival AIADMK after PWD Minister K V Ramalingam made some remarks regarding handling of the Cauvery water issue during the DMK regime, while replying to the opposition party moving a motion on a breach in Kandaleru lake.
The remarks did not go down well with the party's members. However, Leader of the House and Finance Minister O Panneerselvam defended his cabinet colleague, saying the DMK did not get the final verdict on Cauvery Water Dispute notified in Central gazette, an issue often raised by Chief Minister Jayalalithaa even as Opposition Leader.
A few words were exchanged and the DMK's plea that they be allowed to clarify was not heeded to by Speaker D Jayakumar following which the party MLAs staged a walkout led by Legislature Wing Leader MK Stalin.
Later, during a debate on the grants for School Education department, DMK legislator J Anbazhagan was evicted on the directions of the Speaker after he allegedly made some remarks against the Treasury benches.
The DMK members walked out protesting against the action.
