Chennai: DMDK chief and the party's chief ministerial candidate actor Vijayakanth is shifting to Ullundurpet constituency to contest the upcoming assembly polls in Tamil Nadu.

This is the second time in a row that Mr Vijayakanth is shifting his constituency. The actor, who made his political debut in 2006 winning from the Virudachalam assembly constituency, had moved to Rishivandiyam in 2011. The party has allotted Rishivandiyam to Vincent Jeyaraj.

Mr Vijayakanth leads the Vijayakanth Front, comprising the People's Welfare Front led by Vaiko and the GK Vasan's Tamil Maanila Congress.

Mr Vijayakanth's party will contest in 104 seats.

In 2006, the DMDK won just one seat, but registered a vote share of 10 per cent. In 2011, he allied with the AIADMK and won 29 seats. However, he became an opposition leader soon as he parted ways with the ruling AIADMK.
