Dancing On Duty, Jail Official in Tamil Nadu Faces The Music

57-year-old P Sankaran works at the Attur sub-jail.

Chennai: A video showing a jail official dancing to loud music in his uniform apparently during office hours  has resulted in his suspension in Tamil Nadu's Salem district. 57-year-old P Sankaran is the deputy jailer of Attur sub-jail.

The suspension order was issued by the Superintendent of the Salem Central Jail, under whose jurisdiction the Attur jail comes.

The 57-second video shows the officer dancing with abandon, holding his cap in one hand. He's cheered on by four other men, two of them in police uniform. Sounds of men whistling too is heard.

While one man is seen filming the dance with his mobile phone, another appears to be a housekeeping staff, wearing a blue uniform.

Unconfirmed reports say the dance took place in Chennai last month when the officer had come for Republic Day duty.

AG Mourya, Inspector General of Prisons, Headquarters, said, "We can't confirm where this happened. An inquiry is on".
