Alliance Talk? Ghulam Nabi Azad To Meet M Karunanidhi Tomorrow

Ghulam Nabi Azad Azad's visit to M Karunanidhi comes in the wake of the DMK leader inviting the Congress and the DMDK as part of his efforts to cobble up a strong alliance against the Jayalalithaa-led AIADMK.

Chennai: Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad will meet DMK chief M Karunanidhi tomorrow to discuss a possible electoral alliance with the latter's party to oust ruling the AIADMK in the upcoming assembly election in Tamil Nadu.

Though Mr Azad said it would be 'courtesy call' on the DMK patriarch, the meeting is however expected to set the ball rolling for the two parties striking a poll pact.

Mr Azad's visit to Mr Karunanidhi comes in the wake of the DMK leader inviting the Congress and the DMDK as part of his efforts to cobble up a strong alliance against the Jayalalithaa-led AIADMK.

Recently, TNCC President EVKS Elangovan had said that Mr Azad would hold talks with Mr Karunanidhi on the alliance issue.

The DMK, which was a key constituent of the Congress-led UPA government since 2004, broke out of the alliance in 2013 on the Sri Lankan issue. However, the Congress had later supported Mr Karunanidhi's daughter Kanimozhi in the Rajya Sabha polls that year.
