QBR to reach Chandigarh on July 1

Chandigarh: Queen's Baton Relay (QBR) of 2010 Commonwealth Games would reach here on July 1 instead of earlier scheduled July 3.

"The baton will reach Chandigarh on July 1 from Jammu. It will leave for Una, in Himachal Pradesh, on July 4 morning," an official said here on Saturday.

He said that on July 1 the QBR would pass through Chandigarh to be kept at Western Command headquarters in Chandimandir, near here.

On July 3, it will travel in an open vehicle till Matka Chowk here, from where the the relay will start and end at cricket stadium in Sector 16.

From there the same evening, the baton will be taken to UT guest house and from here it will leave for Una the next morning, he said.

Over 1100 cops will be deployed to ensure foolproof security once the baton arrives in the city.

Meanwhile, the QBR, which had yesterday entered India via from Pakistan via the Attari border, on Saturday reached Punjab's industrial town Ludhiana in big convoy of cars and jeeps amid tight security.

Punjab Agricultural University vice-chancellor M S Kang and ADGP Rajan Gupta received the baton at PAU, Ludhiana from where it was flagged off by Punjab DGP PS Gill for its onward journey to Patiala.
